In this piece the protective outer form appears to cradle the central figure, evoking themes of safety, growth, and human connection. If wood could give hugs, this would be it.
Its vertical body is made of flowing, ribbon-like shapes that twist and rise organically, creating long open spaces through the center. This piece is made of Sapele Wood. The wood has a rich grain structure much like African Mahogany. The name of the wood comes from an Africa village in which it was first discovered. .
The wood grain is very visible, running vertically and emphasizing the height and movement of the piece. The surfaces are smooth giving the sculpture a refined, hand-carved quality. Near the upper-middle section, a reflective metallic sphere is set into the wood, creating a striking contrast between the warm natural material and the cool, mirror-like metal. The sphere acts almost like a focal point or symbolic “pearl,” “eye,” or captured orb within the flowing wooden structure.
The top curves into an elongated loop, while the lower portion narrows and opens in several places before meeting a simple square wooden base. Overall, the piece feels graceful, organic, and figurative, suggesting movement, growth, or a stylized human form.
