As with many pieces, this started with a slab of wood, this time a piece of Mango imported from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. This wood was taken from a grove located in this area. The rare wood has distinctive color striations not found in other generally milled species. The curves are partly attributed to the actual shape of the outside of the tree, accentuated by carving for fluidity of design. The base of the piece is like the rounded handle of a sword.
