Ladder to Nowhere

Medium:Douglas Fir, on Parota wood base
Dimensions:96”H x 21”W x 19”D
Edition Number:302

This piece is made of naturally warped pieces of Douglas Fir that has been stained and finely finished with a polyurethane resin.  The cross members are an unknown hardwood.  The attempt was made to make an abstract wooden ladder reaching skyward.  Standing eight feet tall, the ladder seems to break up the taller it gets.

One of the tallest pieces I have created, it is made for a high ceiling house.  Actually recycling wood that could not be used in construction, it has given new life to pieces that would have otherwise been scraped.  The beauty of this common species of wood is accentuated by the stain and other finishing techniques found in all of my other work.
